Spring arrives with its best plot twist — a Saturday morning at The Shed overflowing with herbs, plant starts, and everything that makes North Texas gardens come alive in late March.

Books, Blooms, and a Good Story

The Spring Chapter Bookfair at Pearl Street Plaza joins forces with the weekend market to create one of the most unlikely (and lovable) combinations of the season. Storytellers Bookshop is on-site Saturday with local authors, DIY bookmark crafts for kids, and story time at 11am and 1pm. The produce is out front; the books are in the plaza. Both are worth your time.

What's in the Ground Right Now

March 26 lands in prime North Texas planting season — the stretch between the last frost and the punishing summer heat when almost everything grows fast. Look for:

  • Tomato starts (Cherokee Purple, Jet Star, Sweet Million cherry)
  • Basil (Italian large leaf, Genovese, lemon)
  • Jalapeños and serranos
  • Squash and cucumbers
  • Sweet peppers
  • Marigolds and zinnias for pest control
  • Native milkweed for pollinators

Herb Shopping at The Shed

Kelley Produce has an herb potting workshop at 10am on Saturday — $35 gets you a 12-inch pot, soil, three herb starts of your choice, and a planting guide. Space is limited; check in at the Information Booth.

"The gap between a home cook who knows herbs and one who grows them is a single Saturday morning at the market."

See You at Pearl Street Plaza

Pearl Street Plaza is open Saturdays alongside the full Shed market. If you're already shopping for produce, make the loop through the plaza before you leave — Storytellers Bookshop won't be hard to find.

Planting Tip

Herb starts from The Shed are already adapted to North Texas soil and heat. Plant them in full sun (6–8 hours minimum) and water deeply but infrequently — once established, most herbs prefer to dry out slightly between waterings.

The Shed is open Saturdays 8am–5pm and Sundays 10am–5pm. Spring planting season runs through early May — get your starts in the ground before the heat locks in.
