Texas declared its independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836. That's 190 years of being the best state in the union (Texas's official position), and Dallas Farmers Market is marking the occasion the only way it knows how: with an open market, local vendors, and a hat bar.

Flea Style Hat Bar

Flea Style is setting up a custom hat bar at Pearl Street Plaza both Saturday and Sunday — iron-on patches, tooled leather bands, custom stampings, and a team that can turn a plain straw hat into a genuine Texas conversation piece in about 15 minutes. Bring your own hat or buy one there.

Texas Story Time at Pearl Street Plaza

A Texas history story time runs on Saturday at 10:30am. Local author and educator Diane Chambers reads from two picture books about Texas independence and life on the frontier. Free, open to all ages, no registration needed.

"Texas pride at the market isn't a brand decision — it's just accurate. About 13 of every 20 vendors has roots that go back more than one generation here."

Texas-Made Vendors This Weekend

DFM has a soft preference for Texas-grown and Texas-made goods every week, but Texas Independence Day weekend turns the dial higher. This weekend's featured Texas-made list includes:

  • Lonestar Specialty Foods
  • Spicymas Hot Sauce
  • Kit N Spice
  • Uncle Marc's
  • Bullzerk (Texas-themed apparel)
  • Blue Norther Winery (Saturday only)
  • Goode Goat Farm (Texas goat cheese)
  • Pecan Street Gourmet

Texas Flag Crafts for Kids

A kids' craft station at the Information Booth has Texas flag projects both days — paint-your-own flags, star stickers, and lone star bookmarks. While supplies last.

Quick Parking Note

Texas Independence Day weekend is typically a busy Shed Saturday. The DART rail stops at Pearl/Main and Convention Center stations, both within a 5-minute walk of The Shed. Street parking on Harwood and adjacent streets fills early — plan for public transit or budget extra time.

The Shed is open Saturdays 8am–5pm and Sundays 10am–5pm. All Texas Independence Day programming is free.
