Texas leads the nation in women-owned farms and ranches, with more than 152,000. That's the majority of the agricultural story in this state, and Dallas Farmers Market reflects it. This International Women's Day weekend (March 7–8), The Shed celebrates the women behind the produce, the flowers, the value-added goods, and the handmade items that make the market what it is.
Pick Up a Bingo Card
The Information Booth has Women's Day bingo cards Saturday and Sunday. Find female producers in The Shed to fill your card — each square has a category (a woman who grows flowers, a woman who makes a fermented product, a woman who raises livestock) rather than a name, so you have to explore to win. Complete a line for a 10% off coupon from a participating vendor.
Women Vendors in The Shed
This weekend's featured women-owned producers include:
- Hemingway Hill Farm (flowers, cut tulips, spring color)
- L.A. Farm Girl (jams, preserves, specialty foods)
- Luna Rae (handmade jewelry and fiber arts)
- Kelley Produce (fresh herbs and seasonal vegetables)
- Willow Creek Gardens (native plant starts and perennials)
- Magnolia Honey Farm (Texas honey and bee products)
- Blue Moon Farm (specialty mushrooms)
- Mad Botanicals (herbal teas and tinctures)
"The Shed on an International Women's Day weekend looks exactly like what the agricultural economy actually is: mostly women."
Women-Owned Inside The Market Building
The Market Building also has women-owned businesses worth visiting — check in at the building directory for the current list. The building is open Saturdays from 10am alongside The Shed.
Shopping with Purpose
If you'd like your spending to go directly to women-owned businesses this weekend, ask at the Information Booth for the printed Women's Day vendor map. It's updated each year as vendors change.
The Shed is open Saturdays 8am–5pm and Sundays 10am–5pm. The Market Building is open daily 10am–7pm. All International Women's Day programming is free to attend.
